Take Supplements to Improve Memory

By Jean Helmet

People are encouraged to take herbal supplements to improve memory, but it has been proved that the supplements based on certain vitamins are effective, too. Some medicinal herbs may help people to enhance their memory by expanding the blood vessels, fighting the free radicals, boosting the immune system and decreasing the depression level. The vitamins have similar effects. In addition, the vitamins from the B complex protect the nerves directly.

The scientists have conducted many tests in order to prove that the ginkgo biloba supplements are the best supplements to improve memory. First of all, some substances found in the ginkgo biloba extract improve the circulation of the blood to the brain and to all the other organs by expanding the blood vessels and helping them to relax.

As the oxygen is transported from the lungs to the organs through the blood stream, the oxygenation of the brain is assured, too. The brain requires 20% of the total amount of oxygen that is consumed by the body. If the oxygen supply is below this limit, people may experience dizziness, vertigo, headaches and memory loss.

The fact that the best supplements to improve memory are based on ginkgo biloba is sustained by the further effects. The ginkgo biloba extract also contains some substances that are able to prevent the bad cholesterol from turning into plaque. In time, if this transformation succeeds, the plaque will get deposited on the arteries. The excessive plaque leads to a difficult blood circulation and eventually to stroke. The stroke is also among the most frequent causes of memory loss.

Another effect is determined by flavonoids and terpenoids, which are two types of antioxidants contained by the ginkgo biloba extract. People who take such supplements to improve memory observe that their immune system gets enhanced and the free radicals get neutralized. The free radicals are chemical substances that help in the development of brain cancer and stroke, among other diseases. Such disorders and diseases are also considered risk factors for memory loss.

Other supplements to improve memory are based on ginseng, green tea and rosemary. Most of these contain antioxidants that act the same way as flavonoids and terpenoids. Furthermore, ginseng is considered an energy booster. It is used in the treatment of depression, which is the main cause of memory loss. However, the efficiency of these medicinal herbs is lower than the one of ginkgo biloba.
