Anti Aging Supplements - Proceed With Caution

By Judy Wellsworth

If you are someone who is convinced that Mother Nature has an answer for everything that ails us, it might seem to you that your day has finally come. Think of a health condition, run an Internet search for natural remedies to treat it, and more often than not you will get a list of herbs and natural supplements with at least one or two suggestions.

It's not different with herbal anti aging supplements; in fact, natural anti aging remedies seem to be getting more attention than ever as the Baby Boomer generation has begun to enter retirement.

Natural Vs. Safe
The term "natural', for a great many people, is synonymous with "safe." Even though it's been established that many herbal extracts or vitamins and minerals, when taken in the wrong combinations or in excessive amounts, can be dangerous and can educe the effectiveness of prescription medications, many people still feel better taking natural supplements than synthetic ones to treat their medical conditions. If you are taking any supplements or prescription or over-the counter medications, be sure to research the possible side effect they may have when taken together or with any new anti aging supplements you are considering.

Many people prefer natural anti aging supplements to synthetic ones because almost all prescription drugs have side effects; some of them may even produce allergic reactions. But self-medicating is never a good idea, so talk to a homeopathic physician who is familiar with the potential side effects of the herbal anti aging supplements you are considering. If you experience any unusual physical or mental reactions after beginning the supplements, let the physician know immediately.

Cost Considerations
Many people have turned to herbal anti aging supplement as less costly alternatives to prescription medication. Limited prescription coverage in the health plans of millions of people has left them unable to get the medications recommended by their doctors and herbal anti aging supplements seem to be the best solution. If you are in that position, just make sure you do your research before starting herbal anti aging supplements.

While many of us begin taking herbal anti aging supplements in the hopes of making up for years of neglecting our nutritional and exercise habits, they are not miracle workers. They can help stave off further damage, but the most important thing about beginning one is that you make sure it will cause not damage of its own.
