Best Calcium Source - Is it Safe to Say that Calcium Supplements are the Best Calcium Source?

By John Gibb

There are many dietary sources of calcium like milk, dairy products, green vegetables, fish and seafood. However, when it comes to eating a balanced diet everyday, many of us fall short of even completing our day's meals because of our tight schedules. As a result, we don't receive adequate amounts of important nutrients which should be consumed through diet and consequently become nutrient deficient.

This nutrient deficiency is dangerous for all, particularly for pregnant women. Calcium is one of the most important nutrients required for proper growth and development of not only bones and teeth but also many other systems of the body. To obtain optimal levels of calcium, calcium supplements or tablets have been considered the best calcium source for people of all ages.

Postmenopausal women are at a high risk of developing bone disease later on in their life. This is because they are severely calcium deficient, especially if they don't eat calcium-rich foods and have not added calcium supplements to their everyday diet. For these women and also for pregnant and lactating women, calcium supplements are indeed the best calcium source.

Milk is nature's best calcium source and a gift to us all. Children and teenagers should drink at least 2 cups of milk everyday. The sad part is when we grow up and become relatively inactive, we slowly start becoming calcium deficient. We forget to eat a healthy and balanced diet and as a result of our inactivity, the blood starts robbing calcium stored in the bones.

Furthermore, elderly people find it difficult to digest milk and all other dairy products. Some people are allergic to milk and don't like fish and seafood. Their daily diet comprises of junk food, soft drinks, coffee, chocolates and canned or processed food. The result is a weak immune system, inability to absorb nutrients and weak bones.

The solution is to add the best calcium source to your diet. It can either be from dietary sources or from a wide range of effective calcium supplements available on the market. It has been recommended by doctors to try chewable calcium tablets or liquid calcium supplements because they are totally harmless, in fact very effective and beneficial in terms of maintaining long-term health and well-being.

Always try to find the best calcium supplements available out there to see positive results fairly quickly. Studies show that coral calcium supplements are the most effective and useful for people of all ages.
